  • OGG will go up to 460Kbps I believe, but it's not much better than a 320 MP3 if better at all, and almost nothing outside of digital media players accepts OGG. Remember, it's all going to end up as 44.1/16bit 99% of the time, like when you're converting to MP3.ītw, the max bitrate for MP3 is 320Kbps. 96k is almost unheard of unless you've done the recordings yourself. How much degradation depends on the converters. nothing to gain except file sizes and high CPU usage, and it will introduce degradation. I wouldn't bother rendering out to 96k if you're working with audio of a lower sample rate, like 44.1 which is most common, and more rarely 48k. The general rule is dithering should be the last thing done, and done only ONCE to the final mix.Īlso, are you working with sounds recorded at 96k? You won't gain much otherwise by upsampling to that high of a sample rate. Dithering is used when converting bit depth, I would only worry about it when going from 32bit/24bit down to 16bit, or from 16bit to lower. I like to try different ones every time, but the differences have always been negligible in my experience. Some people stick to the same settings, some people vary them. My advice is to try a few different methods, listen closely and find one you're happy with for the particular tune. You will find people who dither every chance they get, and ones who never dither and/or might wait for the mastering house to decide. There's no right or wrong answer, just preference. People will argue about dithering options for hours.
